A customer with a 2016 Mercedes GLE Coupe 550 came to us with an unusual request to personalise the interior of their vehicle. The task was to modify the lighting control button – specifically, to change the function of the automatic high beam button to a button with an exhaust pipe icon, i.e. active exhaust.

Personalisation – changing the Mercedes GLE Coupe 550 button icon

Original button

The original button featured a standard moon and road symbol, which indicates the car lighting control function, specifically used to activate or deactivate automatic high beams. This is a typical solution used in higher-end Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Implementation process

1. Consultation with the customer At the beginning, we discussed the customer’s vision in detail and designed a new exhaust pipe icon to replace the original lighting pictogram.

2. Button removal The button was carefully removed from the Mercedes GLE Coupe centre console, maintaining the full electronic and mechanical functionality of the component.

3. Surface preparation The original moon and road pictogram was removed, preparing the surface for the new marking in accordance with our proven technology.

4. Development of new graphics Especially for this project, we designed an exhaust pipe icon that perfectly matches the interior design of the Mercedes GLE Coupe and meets the customer’s expectations.

5. Application of the new pictogram Using laser engraving technology, we applied the new exhaust pipe icon with the highest precision and durability.

6. Assembly and quality control After completion of the work, the button was reinstalled and a quality control and functionality test was performed.

Final result

The customer received a unique, personalised button with an exhaust pipe icon that perfectly matches the character of the sporty Mercedes GLE Coupe 550. The modification retains the full functionality of the original button, changing only its visual appearance in accordance with the owner’s individual preferences.
Technical note

The change of the pictogram is purely visual – the electronic function of the button remains unchanged and still controls the vehicle’s automatic headlights.
