Damaged paintwork on the door lock button, hazard warning light button and fan housing in Mercedes CLK, SL and SLK models. The symbols on the buttons were worn and illegible, whilst the surface of the fan housing showed signs of wear typical of long-term use.

Damaged paintwork on the buttons – Mercedes CLK, SL and SLK

Type of material

Painted plastic – buttons and interior components of the Mercedes CLK/SL/SLK (door lock button, hazard warning light button, fan housing)

Solutions applied

As part of the project, we carried out a comprehensive restoration of the damaged components. The process involved:

  • removing the buttons and the fan housing from the interior panel,
  • removal of damaged paintwork along with the remains of old pictograms,
  • thorough cleaning and preparation of the surface for the new coating,
  • application of a new, abrasion- and UV-resistant paint coating to the buttons and other components,
  • laser engraving of new pictograms – the door lock symbol and hazard warning lights – in accordance with the original specifications,
  • reassembly of all components in the interior panel.

Final result: the buttons and fan housing look as good as new, whilst the clear, laser-engraved pictograms guarantee durability and ease of use for years to come.

Yes, and that’s exactly what we did in this CLK/SL/SLK project. Even though the door lock button, hazard warning light button, and fan housing are different components with different shapes, we remove and restore them together in one job: stripping the damaged paint and old pictograms, repainting with abrasion- and UV-resistant paint, and laser-engraving new pictograms – the door lock symbol and hazard lights – to the original specification.

Yes, a fan housing without printed symbols is actually simpler to restore than a button – we just need to clean, repaint, and protect the surface to remove signs of long-term wear like dullness or scratching, without any laser engraving needed unless there are markings to recreate.

No, it’s a purely cosmetic repair to the outer plastic. The switches and wiring that actually control the door locks and hazard lights remain completely untouched – only the surface coating and pictograms are rebuilt.

Time and cost depend on the number of components and how damaged each one is. The standard process includes removal from the interior panel, stripping the damaged paint and old markings, cleaning, repainting, laser-engraving new pictograms where needed, and reassembly. We provide an exact quote individually after receiving photos of all the parts.

We work with interior buttons and control components from all Mercedes models, not just the CLK/SL/SLK – as well as other premium brands including BMW, Audi, Porsche, and Volkswagen. The restoration principle is the same regardless of model: stripping damaged paint and laser-recreating pictograms to the original specification.
